The Thrombosis and Haemostasis Program at the University of Vermont / Fletcher Allen Health Care is seeking a nurse practitioner to become part of our clinical team. We offer a unique opportunity to an individual who wants to develop or expand their expertise in the care of patients with thrombosis-related disorders in an ambulatory setting within a vibrant program that has an outstanding international reputation in thrombosis research.
The clinic population consists of patients with venous thrombosis, inherited thrombophilia and related coagulation disorders, including women’s issues. The position involves care for acute venous thrombosis, genetic evaluation and counseling, bridging anticoagulation, post-thrombotic syndrome, pregnancy management, contraception, vena cava filter retrieval and unexplained arterial thrombosis.
Position responsibilities relate to all aspects of the program, so include clinical practice with physician support, participation in quality improvement programs, continuous acquisition of new knowledge and participation in clinical research. Clinical responsibilities will be commensurate with experience, with training provided as needed and an expectation of increasing case mix complexity over time. The NP will work with a team of 3 hematologists and a dedicated nurse providing support to the NP. Patients are seen independently by the NP with MD discussion. Cases are presented at a weekly multidisciplinary conference focused on NP cases and including hematologists, pathologists, maternal-fetal medicine physicians, and trainees in these fields.
